WCAG 1.2.4 Live Captions

For any live video broadcasts, real-time closed captions that identify speakers and include relevant sounds are provided.

What to do?

  • If you host a live video broadcast, you must have live, real-time closed captions included

This success criterion specifically says it is not intended to require two-way calls through web apps to be captioned regardless of the needs of users.

This seems to apply to more formal broadcasts and in, in my research, I did not find much elaboration on this requirement.

There are numerous companies that offer real-time closed captioning.

Plain English Explanation

This is one of the more costly requirements of WCAG 2.0 AA.
