We’re becoming Federal Express for PDF remediation services. In the past two weeks client requests have included:
- Can you work weekends?
- Can you remediate our PDF within 24 hours?
- Can you customize fixes on the same-day?
- Can you meet for a quick Zoom call in two hours?
The answer is, yes, we can. Usually.
Of course, there’s a rush order fee that starts at $200, but we want to be known as the one company who can make seemingly impossible PDF accessibility remediation turnaround times, possible.
This is, in part, why we have U.S. based PDF remediation specialists as well as a small document remediation team in India: our team enables us to fulfill large orders as well as consult with clients and work on documents for immediate, sometimes same-day turnarounds.
By the way, our lead document specialist is a certified IAAP Accessible Document Specialist (not an easy exam to pass).
With last-minute requests, most clients realize there is a trade off that happens: sometimes there will be content in the document that limits our ability to remediate to full PDF/UA conformance.
For example, a prospective client recently had a PDF with a map that was completely color coded, meaning there wasn’t another way, besides color, to perceive the information the map key was providing. Here we’d need permission from the client to alter the map and depending on the complexity and actual space available, we may not be able to make the change within the existing document.
When you stack a, “hey, do you think you can remediate and deliver this document overnight?” request, the answer is, probably not because then we’d need to recreate the actual content in the document vs. just remediating the document itself.
But, of course, this is just one of the practical realities one last minute orders and most clients completely understand and are happy to receive a document that is PDF/UA conformant or is as close as possible.
Note: If your document meets PDF/UA the technical standard, it will also be WCAG 2.1 AA conformant.
