Missouri Business Websites Sued Over ADA Compliance

A recent KMBC article, ‘Sue and settle’ lawsuits coming against Midwest business websites over alleged ADA noncompliance, caught our attention. According to the article, as many as 75 Missouri organizations including non-profits, have been sued in 2024 and 2025.

Although most website accessibility litigation takes place in New York, California, and Florida, there has also been in uptick in state and federal court filings in states including New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Illinois. So it’s not a surprise to us that this serial litigation is spilling over into other states.

This is a very lucrative practice for plaintiffs’ law firms and, unless a prohibitive legal barrier arises, this practice will continue.

Although most of our clients our Shopify store owners, lawsuits certainly aren’t limited to ecommerce websites. In the article a theater was targeted, but many other industries are affected including health, doctors, hotels, restaurants, and many more.

If you’re concerned with being sued, it’s very important that you not rush to make a purchase. Just as the legal landscape is predatory, so to is the marketplace and many of the ADA website compliance “solutions” being sold don’t actually help prevent lawsuits.

We highly, highly recommend you sign up to watch our War Room strategy session. This session lasts 2.5 hours and gives you a 360 view of lawsuits, how to stop them, and what services you need and don’t need.

Of course, if we can help with an audit of your website (where we find the accessibility issues) or remediation (where we fix the issues), feel free to reach out and we’ll reply back ASAP.
