PDF remediation is technically complex. For simple text and image documents, it’s usually not that bad, but introduce a few interactive elements and/or other types of content and working through Adobe Acrobat can be a nightmare.
And if you are caught somewhere between a tutorial, AI, and Adobe Acrobat, with hours being frittered away into the abyss, you aren’t the first person to wonder why Adobe doesn’t make their software more intuitive for accessibility.
Anyway, the point is expertise is required.
But that leads to another problem: expertise (and even effort) is often faked on service pages.
And we know this firsthand – we’ve tried out PDF remediation contractors for our own documents only to receive PDFs that still have accessibility issues (e.g., missing tags, improper reading order) . The reality for everyone is outsourcing PDF remediation has the very real potential for receiving documents that still have accessibility issues. This is because many vendors only check for basic accessibility issues.
Because this problem exists in the market, we want to be a service provider people have confidence in. No, we’re not going to be priced as low as as a freelancer on Fiverr or UpWork, but you also won’t assume a 60% risk that you don’t receive 5/10 quality documents back; you’ll know you will be receiving documents that conform to WCAG 2.1 AA and PDF/UA standards.
This leads to our simple quality assurance process:
- First we have skilled and knowledgeable document remediation experts remediate your documents. These experts are located in India.
- We have a QA manager, also in India, who reviews the document quality.
- We have a QA lead, located in the United States, who separately reviews the document quality.
Both the QA manager and lead are Section 508 Trusted Testers with years of experience.
By having two independent experts review documents, we ensure that no batch of PDFs reaches a client without independently being checked, manually, twice.
We have great relationships with all of our contractors, but we always want to make sure everyone is on their A+ game and the quality never slips.
It’s the Wild West out there, but that’s not the way it should be. Our dual-layer QA process ensures that every document meets the highest accessibility standards, so clients can trust that their PDFs are truly accessible and meet compliance requirements.
If you need help with document remediation, we’re happy to help. Just send us a message and we’ll be right with you.
