The Giant Potential in Starting a Digital Accessibility Business

Whether you want a career or a side hustle or even to start your own business, the digital accessibility market is absolutely brimming with opportunities.

With multiple laws maturing close to their compliance deadlines and the enormous update to Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) looming, the current and future market demand far outpaces the number of accessibility professionals who can fulfill the work.

As an example of the current demand, just look at this salary position posted by Airbnb and listed on A11yJobs.com:

Lead Experience Designer, Accessibility - Remote Eligible for Airbnb $174,000 - $209,000 pay range.

You can read the full job post on A11yJobs.com (opens in new tab).

That’s potentially up to $209,000 for a salary position for an accessibility designer position. That’s more than many attorneys and doctors make.

But this is just the beginning, there are opportunities everywhere – I come across them first-hand while talking with clients at Accessible.org. And it’s not just me – many people recognize the job, career, and business opportunities.

I’ve had several people reach out and ask me how to start an accessibility consulting business and how they can offer audits and user testing.

To provide advice, I initially posted two videos:

But these videos only fueled more and more questions so I created an entire course on how to start a business in digital accessibility where I answer everything:

  • why there is limitless potential
  • what do you need to get started
  • how to start a consulting business
  • what marketing works best
  • what are the difficulties
  • how to hire contractors

And so much more. The course is like a master consulting session with me where I give you the best takeaways and advice from my 7 years experience in this space.

And at the end of the course, I give you templates that you can use for your business:

  • contractor contract
  • sales proposal
  • client log spreadsheet
  • client contract
