AI VPATs Coming to Accessibility Tracker Very Soon

Have you ever asked ChatGPT if it was possible for AI to fill in a VPAT for you?

In 10 days, the answer will be yes.

We’re nearing completion of adding a super cool feature to Accessibility Tracker: AI generated VPATs. Here’s how it will work:

  1. You upload your accessibility audit report in Excel spreadsheet format.
  2. Accessibility Tracker extracts your audit data.
  3. You fix as many issues as you’d like — 0 or all issues.
  4. You tell Tracker AI to generate a VPAT for you.
  5. Tracker AI will populate a VPAT for you based on the status of your current audit report.

Now this will not be an ACR — you’ll still need to manually review to ensure that everything is correct. After all, AI makes mistakes.

However, by adding the expert manual layer to ensure accuracy and completeness, you will then have an Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR).

This two layer approach of 1) AI and 2) human amounts to hybrid automation.

Hybrid automation first layers AI automation and then layers human review for completion. So the process isn’t 100% automated, but it is automated to the greatest extent possible. Hybrid automation (real hybrid automation, not “combining” a scan and screen reader testing) is the future of digital accessibility.

And now everyone will have access to automated VPAT generation with a paid plan at Accessibility Tracker (starting at $19/month).

This alone is a huge time and money savings as filling in a VPAT can take hours — and this is after the audit report is finished; you still have to carry over the audit report results from the spreadsheet to the VPAT and it’s not a copy and paste job.

As a provider of VPAT services, this will make our operations so much more efficient — and we will pass on savings to clients.

And, of course, this means other accessibility companies can save money as well.

But one use case that we think AI VPATs will be especially attractive to are large organizations who create their own ACRs. We’re imagining Google, Microsoft, HP, Oracle, Intuit, and many others who have their own accessibility teams that manage ACRs for their wide away of digital products.

Everybody wins on this. The official announcement is coming very, very soon.
