With the ADA Title II deadline drawing near, we’re getting more and more requests from organizations working toward compliance. As part of those requests, clients are consistently asking us to help find all the PDFs on their website.
Most organizations don’t have a complete inventory of the PDFs linked across their web pages and it’s extremely important that public entities know all of the PDFs linked to from their site.
To address this, we’ve added a PDF Finder tool to Accessibility Tracker. Using the automated scan feature, you can now locate every PDF linked from your website in a matter of seconds. Instead of manually clicking through your site trying to track down documents, the scan does the work for you and gives you a complete inventory.
Why PDF Discovery Matters for ADA Title II Compliance
PDFs fall under the same WCAG conformance expectations as your web pages, and they’re one of the most common accessibility blind spots. Policies, forms, meeting minutes, reports: these documents pile up over time and often go untracked. For state and local government entities working under ADA Title II deadlines, an incomplete picture of your PDF documents means an incomplete compliance strategy. You need to know what exists before you can plan your remediation.
The automated scan pulls every linked PDF into a single inventory so you can prioritize based on importance, traffic, or legal exposure rather than guessing at what’s out there.
Hosted vs. Linked
Note that this does not include documents that have merely been uploaded to your site. For example, your Excel spreadsheet was uploaded to your web host domain’s subfolder. This tool would not locate the hosted document because it wouldn’t be linked from any web pages.
Get Started
The PDF Finder is available now inside Accessibility Tracker’s scan feature. Run a scan and you’ll see your full PDF inventory in the results, giving you a clear starting point for remediation.
If you’re not using Accessibility Tracker yet, the PDF Finder is only the start. You can manage your ADA Title II project remediation on the platform.
Do you need to locate PowerPoint (PPT), Word (Doc), and Excel (XLXS) files?
We’re adding the ability to scan and find these documents as well.
