There are many accessibility companies who are grossly overstating what their tools “powered by” artificial intelligence (AI) can do. The truth is AI still isn’t close to auditing or remediating your website or other digital asset.
But it’s not like ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, etc. aren’t absolutely amazing in their capabilities so why not leverage them to their fullest and make accessibility remediation easier?
Our new web app, Accessibility Tracker, does just that.
Table of Contents
Accessibility Tracker enables you to upload your audit spreadsheet and turn your audit report into a dynamic hub where you can sort and prioritize issues, assign issues to team members, log comments, track progress (including what issues have been validated), and receive reports.
Where AI comes into play is when you go from the report view to the singular issue view. Inside the panel, you’ll see a complete breakdown of the issue:
- what the issue is
- where it’s located
- WCAG success criterion
- suggested fix
- disabilities affected
- screenshot / screen recording
- notes
Everything in the audit captured in a neat, easy to read snapshot.
There will also be a time stamped comment log of any comments made on the issue so you know the history and status of the fix progress.
ChatGPT Intelligence
And then there’s AI built right in. We’ve integrated the latest model of ChatGPT to infuse instant intelligence into Accessibility Tracker.
Pre-Prompted
This means ChatGPT has already been pre-prompted with the issue information and accessibility knowledge so all you have to do is ask AI a question on the issue and you’ll instantly get an informed answer.
Note how we said that we have already pre-prompted AI with background information. This means you don’t have to enter in background information for each issue you’re working on – we’ve not only given AI the issue in question, we’ve given it specific accessibility knowledge.
Now all you have to do is ask AI a question. For example, how do I add a skip navigation link to my website if we’re using this code (copy and paste code snippet from header)?
Now, because we’ve already given it the background information necessary (technically referred to as fine-tuning), you’ll get a much better, much more precise answer because, in a real way, ChatGPT will already be primed specifically for working on remediation for your accessibility project.
How AI Saves Time
This not only saves your team remediation time when you’re working on fixes, it also reduces the number of hours you need for technical support. We charge $195/hour for technical support and most clients purchase 3-5 hours. This means, on just a single website project, Accessibility Tracker could easily save:
- 4-8 hours of developer time
- 1-3 hours of technical support time
Summary
We’re still not close to automating accessibility remediation (or audits), but we can save 10+ hours per project simply by infusing artificial intelligence into our processes.
Even though there’s not a big red button that says, “push to make website WCAG 2.1 AA conformant,” we think clients and non-clients alike are going to love Accessibility Tracker’s AI feature.
