Digital Accessibility and Compliance Book
Digital Accessibility and Compliance is the ultimate book for not only understanding all of the concepts and terms in the digital accessibility sphere, but putting them all in context. I know because I wrote it.
Inside you’ll find a concise, but thorough breakdown of:
- WCAG
- audits
- remediation
- user testing
- certification
- VPATs / ACRs
And much more. Unless you’ve watched my YouTube channel for the last 2 years, you’re likely uncertain of at least a few aspects of this space.
This book is available on Amazon and will give you expert level understanding in 1 hour of read time.
Invest in education. Just $10. There’s a chance it saves you tens of thousands.
You could also throw in a project consultant on this part, but if you read the book, you’ll have a much better idea of whether you want to bring on a consultant.
Accessibility Services Cost Calculator
How much should you budget for?
Our accessibility services cost calculator gives you a great estimate of audit and VPAT services.
Accessibility Policy Template
You could argue whether creating an accessibility policy should go 2nd or 3rd on this list, but either way, you need a centralized document that organizes and directs your project and your organization’s accessibility efforts going forward.
An accessibility policy includes such items as:
- roles
- responsibilities
- standards
- deadlines
- procurement
We have a free accessibility policy template (that took hours to create). All you have to do is subscribe to our email list.
Digital Accessibility Inventory Spreadsheet
Self explanatory and absolutely necessary so you, as an organization, know exactly what digital assets you need make accessible and what’s in scope.
We’ve created a publicly available Google Sheet for ADA Title II compliance, but you can easily fashion this to your objectives.
Third-party Audit Service Provider
Realistically, you’ll need to source out auditing to an accessibility service provider.
This could be us or it could be another reputable digital accessibility company. As one filtering mechanism, choose a company who isn’t affiliated with overlays or widgets.
The key is to get high quality audit reports you can rely upon.
Accessibility Tracker Platform
This is a mega recommendation: use Accessibility Tracker as your platform for managing projects.
There are so many features that will save you time and money, but here’s a big one: your team has access to AI assistance for each accessibility issue in your audit report.
This makes fixes much easier — especially for developers, designers, and content editors who are new to accessibility.
Digital Team
You need a team to fix the issues in the audit report. And a developer is absolutely essential.
Even with Tracker AI, someone with a development background will be needed to make fixes.
Summary
Whether or not you’re familiar with accessibility, you’ve got a lot to work on for your project.
Right now organizations across the world are working on ADA and EAA compliance (and more) and many are figuring out accessibility and compliance on the fly.
Sometimes this can work out and other times tens of thousands of dollars (and hundreds of hours of time) are lost for no good reason.
Of course, you’re always welcome to contact us if you need help.
