Contract Renewal Requiring a VPAT
My name is John and I’m with a software company.
One of our clients is requesting an Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR) utilizing the Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT).
To proceed with our contract renewal, this documentation must meet the following criteria:
- Conformance must be documented against WCAG 2.1 Level AA
- The VPAT/ACR must be dated within the last 18 months
- The assessment must include the following details:
- The individual or company who performed the accessibility testing
- The methodology used for that testing (e.g., tools, manual testing, screen reader types, scope)
We were wondering what the cost of this would be through Accessible.
Third-Party VPAT vs. Validated VPAT
We currently have a SaaS platform that is used by a variety of industries, and our university clients are becoming increasingly adamant about having an independently validated VPAT supplied during procurement.
We are interested in either:
- Having the VPAT completed by a third party, or
- Providing a VPAT to be validated by an expert/consultancy
We understand an independently developed VPAT may carry more weight than one that was validated, but are also dealing with budgeting constraints. Our front-end designers have been mindful of most WCAG A/AA standards during design, so there is some familiarity on our part with accessibility issues and concerns.
We would like to discuss the best options for our organization and understand the potential costs.
Understanding the VPAT Process
We are being requested to provide a VPAT and WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, so I wanted to get a better understanding of the process and also understanding how you can help in this process.
Switching Vendors Due to Pricing
Looking to understand pricing for full manual audits for our product(s). We will need three separate VPATs for WCAG. Currently using a vendor and looking to switch due to pricing.
Which Pages to Include in a VPAT
Hello,
I’m trying to get a VPAT/ACR done for a website I am working on. A few questions:
- Which pages should go through the VPAT process? For example, should the 404 page be included or not because it’s just a static page?
- I see that you charge $100–$250 per page. Can you tell me what goes into the higher cost per page? Dynamic content?
- Are similar templates grouped together? For example, the login page and create account page both have forms with inputs.
- How long does it normally take without rush?
Thank you.
Municipal Government Portal ACR
Hello!
Our organization is seeking a VPAT-based Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR) for a customer portal used by residents of a municipality. We are requesting a fixed-price quote for the audit and final ACR only; all remediation will be handled internally.
Project Specifications:
- Deliverable: Official, signed ACR using the ITI VPAT template (WCAG 2.1, Level AA)
- Scope: Full audit of the public-facing resident portal. Scope includes all interactive flows (signup, login, data-entry forms, file upload), approximately 20 pages of varying complexity.
- Client context: Municipal government; experience with state accessibility requirements is a strong plus.
Testing Requirements:
The audit should include manual review and cover both desktop and mobile environments. Please specify the assistive technologies (e.g., NVDA/JAWS, VoiceOver) and browsers your team uses for this kind of testing.
Please provide:
- A fixed-price quote for the audit and final ACR
- Estimated delivery timeline
- A brief description of your testing methodology
Weighing VPAT Cost Against Client Revenue
I’m trying to get an idea of a realistic price estimate to get an audit completed.
For context, we’re a grant management software company that’s been in operation for approximately 17 years. The issue of a VPAT has come up maybe two or three times in that span. Where it has, we’ve either provided them with self-audit results and that has sufficed, or we’ve simply waved off that business because the demand has not been high enough to warrant the projected cost of having the audit done.
The reason we’re reevaluating now is that we are not talking to a prospective client, but rather one that we’ve had for approximately seven years. Their policies have been updated and they are mandating a VPAT report. So we’re now weighing the cost of the audit against the revenue from that one client to make the determination of whether we cut them loose or not.
To be candid, I’m not optimistic given what I’ve seen of audit pricing in the past (not including my remediation costs to address any issues in the audit) versus what we pull in from this one client. But before I make that call, I wanted something more definitive.
I’ve reviewed your pricing sheet, and it’s clear that if we were to price based on the per-page model, it’d be completely out of our range. But I understand that the structure and function of many of those pages is relatively redundant. So I’m trying to determine just how far into the application we have to go in order to have a valid audit.
I don’t know that that can be done any way other than an online meeting and quick overview of the system. Please let me know when you are available to set up that discussion.
Thank you.
Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA Audit
Company seeks a qualified accessibility vendor to conduct a manual accessibility audit of our web application and produce a Voluntary Product Accessibility Template (VPAT) / Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR) covering Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 AA (with an optional WCAG 2.2 AA gap addendum).
Turnkey Accessibility Engagement
We need a turnkey accessibility engagement with minimal meetings.
Scope: One web app (or site). Provide a fixed price for a WCAG audit and a completed VPAT 2.5Rev (INT) ACR mapping to WCAG 2.2 AA and WCAG 2.0 AA.
Deliverables:
- ACR (VPAT 2.5Rev)
- Prioritized remediation list
- Validation re-test
- Brief executive summary
Process: One kickoff call or fewer; otherwise vendor-led testing. Include assistive technologies and browsers in “Evaluation methods used” in the ACR.
Scheduling: Earliest start plus fastest realistic timeline. If available, include an interim letter of engagement we can show to our buyer while the audit is underway.
Attachments we can provide: URLs/test credentials, 5–10 key user flows, tech stack, and any prior findings.
State Education Agency Review
We’re getting ready for a state education agency review. Part of the process requires us to submit a VPAT and a signed coversheet from a third-party evaluator.
Can you let me know:
- What does your process look like for running an accessibility audit?
- Do you provide both the VPAT and the signed coversheet?
- How long does it usually take, and what’s the cost range?
- Is there anything we should do on our end before we start?
The deadline to have this completed is March 1, 2026.
Multiple VPAT Assessments for Software Products
Company sells multiple information management system software products, and we would like to hire a consultant to complete a VPAT assessment for three of the products that we offer.
Would love to connect to discuss pricing—I am getting quotes from a few places as we plan our budget for 2026.
Thanks so much!
LMS Accessibility Audit for RFP Submissions
I’m reaching out on behalf of my company as we’re exploring options for a WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility audit and a VPAT/Accessibility Conformance Report to support current and future RFP submissions.
We’d like to better understand your process and pricing for a project-based engagement. Specifically, this would involve:
- A manual accessibility audit of our Learning Management System (LMS) front end
- Verification against WCAG 2.2 AA standards
- Delivery of a formal VPAT/Accessibility Conformance Report (ACR)
Could you let me know:
- Typical scope you recommend (number of URLs/pages, workflows, etc.) for an LMS project?
- Your estimated pricing structure and timelines
- Whether you’d like us to schedule a short demo to walk through our LMS front end, navigation, and key workflows
We’re looking for a reliable partner to help us ensure compliance for both an active RFP and future opportunities, so I’d appreciate any details you can share.
Thank you, and I look forward to your response.
Government Contracts Requiring WCAG Compliance
Greetings!
In January 2025, my business acquired a platform that distributes items.
Since hundreds of our clients are school districts, state agencies, law enforcement agencies, and federal agencies, we will need to meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility in order to maintain those contracts.
I am hoping you could provide an estimate proposal for a WCAG accessibility audit and VPAT development for our website.
Thank you for your time and consideration!
Updated VPAT Timing and Pricing
We want to get an updated VPAT in a few weeks and wanted to get an understanding of your offerings, timescales for start of engagement to report delivery, and maybe get a better understanding of the audit portion of pricing.
Small Company Budget for ACR
Hi there,
I wondered how much it would cost to create an ACR for our website. We are aware of some issues—for example, regarding contrast on some of the pages—and wondered if it was possible to work around these with a “contrast” feature.
The VPAT version we need to use is EN 301 549 Edition, Version 2.5Rev.
We are a small company with low funds for this kind of thing!
I look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Satellite Offices Needing Affordable VPAT Vendor
We are currently having our software platforms audited for accessibility compliance. Our organization has a number of satellite area offices around the country that conduct their own R&D, which can lead to software platforms that are not supported by the national organization.
We are trying to partner our area offices with an accessibility vendor to audit these software platforms and provide VPATs based on current state. There is concern that the current accessibility vendor we use at the national level might have prices that are prohibitive for these offices.
We are looking for alternatives. If you are interested in learning more to see if you can help us, please email me.
SaaS Startup Seeking Ongoing Accessibility Partnership
Hello!
My name is John and I am the founder of a SaaS startup that makes affordable technology. We have two products, both built for colleges and universities.
I was hoping we might be able to identify the most common “journeys” for each product, then count the screens overall to support these journeys. This can help us generate a quote. We would set up a dedicated secured tenant of our software for your evaluation.
Our goal is to bring our products into conformance for WCAG AA.
The services we are interested in include:
Audits for each product.
After the first audit, we will need some time to address and remediate the listed issues. Then I am hoping we can verify those issues have been fixed and move on to (for each product):
- Accessible.org certification
- Statement of conformance
- VPAT/ACR
- User testing including recorded sessions
We would want to redo this at least once a year.
I have been meaning to reach out to get the ball rolling here but always feel like I don’t have enough information to share to get started. Hopefully this is enough to determine if this kind of ongoing project is something your organization is interested in potentially partnering on.
Thanks for your time and consideration.
VPAT for eLearning Courses
I recently had the pleasure of reviewing a few of your YouTube videos—thank you for sharing such helpful content!
I’m reaching out to learn more about the VPAT/ACR services you offer. I’m currently looking for support in completing VPAT documentation for a few eLearning courses we’ve developed for clients. These courses range from 40 to 60 minutes in length and were built entirely in an authoring tool, using only components claimed to be accessible and screen reader-compatible.
To give you a bit more context:
- We’ve conducted internal accessibility testing using NVDA
- All images include alt text, and diagrams are accompanied by transcripts for visually impaired users
- Some courses incorporate interactive blocks—while technically screen reader-compatible, we’ve documented concerns around user experience and flagged this for the client
- A few client-provided graphics use color combinations that do not meet WCAG A/AA contrast standards; we’ve already communicated these exceptions to the client
I’d love to learn more about your availability, pricing, and process for supporting VPATs like these.
Additionally, would a review link be sufficient for your review, or would you need LMS access to experience the course within its final delivery environment?
Looking forward to connecting and hopefully working together!
Local Government Sites and State Deadline
I work as a developer for a company that builds sites and software for local governments. We have a couple clients that would require some accessibility updates before an upcoming state deadline.
I was wondering if we could have a meeting, and/or if I could get a quote for a VPAT for one of our sites.
Ebook Publisher Renewing VPATs
I work for an ebook publisher who is currently looking to renew its VPATs. We are looking for a quote with a short turnaround since we are looking to begin soon.
FAQ
How much does a VPAT cost?
Accessible.org charges $350 to fill in and complete the WCAG edition of the VPAT plus the cost of the audit. Audits for products and services typically range from $1,500 to $3,500 depending on scope. Here are the prices for issuing the different VPAT editions:
- WCAG edition: $350
- Section 508 edition: $550
- EU edition: $650
- INT edition: $950
How long does it take to get an ACR?
1-2 weeks if you don’t need to fix issues. We’ll issue your ACR right along with your audit report. Here’s a breakdown of the timeline:
Audit phase: 2 weeks standard (1 week expedited for an additional fee)
Remediation phase (optional): Varies based on how quickly your team implements fixes. We validate within 5 days of you notifying us fixes are complete, with subsequent rounds also within 5 days.
Typical end-to-end timelines with remediation:
- 1 month: rapid remediation from your team
- 2 months: quick pace, but not uncommon
- 3 months: comfortable standard
Your options for issuance:
- With the audit: fastest, but reflects all issues found
- After remediation: cleaner report showing improved conformance
- Both: initial ACR right away, updated ACR post-remediation (additional $350)
Option 3 is popular with clients who need to show a buyer they’re actively working toward conformance.
Which VPAT edition should I choose?
The WCAG edition serves as the default for most organizations. Choose Section 508 when selling exclusively to U.S. federal agencies. Select EN 301 549 for European public sector contracts. The INT edition combines all three standards and works best when selling across multiple markets or to buyers with varying requirements. When uncertain, check what your buyer specifically requests.
Do all pages need to be audited?
No. Audits evaluate representative screens and user flows rather than every possible page. Pages with similar structure, content, and functionality are grouped together. For example, if your login page and account creation page share the same form template, they count as one unique screen type. During scoping, you identify core user flows, primary screens, and different role experiences to determine what should be included.
Can I fix accessibility issues before the ACR is issued?
Yes. Accessible.org offers a pause-and-fix approach where you receive the audit report first, then have time to remediate issues before the ACR is finalized. Your development team addresses identified issues, technical experts validate the fixes, and the process continues until you reach your desired conformance level or timeline. The final ACR reflects your remediated accessibility status rather than the initial audit findings.
